Al Excess began his journey into the dance music scene at the tender age of 16 when one of his college mates purchased an old pair of second hand turntables and a mixer along with a couple of hard house vinyls. The two friends
would spend hours getting to grips with the technicalities of basic mixing, often playing the same two tunes over and over, such was their passion for their newly discovered past-time. What followed was a seemingly endless series of college and house parties where Al and his like-minded mates would get together and enjoy playing out to their friends on the tatty old equipment.
As time passed Al began to spend more and more time and money on Djing, and by the age of 17 he had invested in his own pair of decks and a half decent mixer.
As his collection of tunes grew - mostly consisting of classic trance and hard house records, Al continued to endeavour to play out whenever and wherever possible - be it at a house party, or outside in the middle of a field - Al would play anywhere.
From this point on, Al was influenced heavily by the early classic trance sounds and producers/artists such as Solar Stone and Three Drives, along with the sounds of the incredibly successful Tidy Trax and Nukleuz labels.
On reaching 18, Al and some of his other DJ friends were asked to play at the 18th birthday party of a girl they knew from college. However, this was to be no house party - the girl in question had hired one of the local nightclubs for the evening.
With an element of fear and trepidation, Al and the other DJs took the party by storm and rocked the nightclub to its very foundations.
Shortly after the party, Al was offered a residency at the nightclub, which he took up and proceeded to play weekly to a crowd of hungry Shrewsbury dance music fans.
This moment was the catalyst that sparked desire inside Al to make a successful career out of Djing, and for the past 8 years he has played at many different club nights and parties always giving 100% of effort to the crowd, and the promoters, wherever he plays.
Al loves interacting with the crowd, and you will very rarely see him hunched over the decks with a concentrated frown on his face like so many of the big DJs that currently rule the scene.
Over the years Al's tastes in music have changed and become somewhat more refined - now preferring to unleash uplifting, and banging trance and hard dance fused with dirty electro rather than the out and out hard house that he once fell in love with, often utilising the most upfront tracks from artists like Marco V, Sander Van Doorn, M.I.K.E, Thomas Datt, Bryan Kearney, Stoneface and Terminal and Gareth Emery to name but a few.
In this respect Al has become a diverse DJ playing at electro/funk nights such as the fantastic 'Two-Kilos of Funk' - One of the most successful new breaks nights in the West Midlands, if not the country, and 'Invasion' a
legendary trance/hard dance night where the music is thumped out all night to a baying crowd of hard music fans.
Having spent thousands of pounds and hours developing what was one a youthful obsession into a technically gifted, crowd pleasing act Al now spends his time writing and producing his own music and playing sets at some of the
country's busiest and successful nights. Not seeking world domination, Al has set his sights on becoming an internationally recognised and respected DJ, and hopes to eventually move into radio work so that he can spread his passion for music to other like-minded people.
