A holiday to Ibiza in 1999 was the start of my passion for DJ'ing . In fact, I was so inspired by my experiences in Ibiza that as soon as I stepped off the plane I headed straight down the local dj shop to buy a pair of cheap decks and a mixer to teach myself how to spin the one's and two's. At that stage, my preferred style of music included Progressive/uplifting house in line with my own musical preferences. In order to get experience and so I could see what it felt like to play infront of a crowd, I began by djing in Brighton at private parties in clubs and bars. I really enjoyed the experience andð soon realised that I wanted to DJ full time, so I packed my bags and moved to Tenerife to find work.
Within a week, I was offered a regular slot in a couple of well known bars and luckily for me, they became shared residencies and lasted for the whole summer season. I was playing everything from Trance to the latest chart music and party tunes.(i had to start somewhere!)
Having enjoyed my time abroad,ð I was keen to build on the experience in a new place. This time I travelled to Ibiza and secured employment at Strikers and Sargeant Peppers bars on the main clubbing strip, where I was playing old skool classics and funky/Electro house tunes. It was here that I started learning about house music, in fact I was lucky enough to play alongside Hed kandi and Basement Jaxx on a couple of occasions - which really helped too!!!
At the end of the season, I moved back to England and started working for a company who supplied dji‰Ls for The Standard Bar in Brighton, pubs and bars in London and the Square night club in Reading. During this time, I also tried my hand at producing and remixing tunes and produced a remix of an 80's classic pop record. Unfortunately, the record label for the original track would not give permission to release the remix although the musician who made the original record (who happens to live locally to me) was very impressed by what I had done.
For financial reasons, I took the decision to take a job managing a pub but djing never took a back seat as when an opportunity arose, I moved back to Ibiza to DJ at the newly refurbished classy cocktail bar at Sergeant Peppers. There I mixed a range of chilled out, funky and electro house tunes and for the first real time found my true style of music. I realised that Funky house can work in late night bars as well as night clubs as its all about making the music flow and I able to adapt my style to suit any venue. I am now back in England producing tunes in my spare time through my record label Sound Developers and loving the Funky/Electro house vibe there is in "club land" at the moment.
