As a typical cliche, my dad was a musician, so naturally I developed an understanding and appreciation for music, being surrounded by it growing up. I started djing in the late 80's. I learnt to mix and scratch on my neighbours' turntables, after being inspired by watching him manipulate the music in that way. I started buying my own records, (R&B/Hip-Hop/Soul and Reggae.). I eventually got my own turntables and practiced every day. My professional career began in 1992 when I joined a collective of DJ's called the "Boogie Bunch".
We played mainly R&B/Hip-Hop/Soul and Reggae. We had residencies across the UK, in major venues in the major cities. We played at the majority of concerts of US artists (e.g. Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, Joe, Redman, Ce Ce Peniston, Jodeci). We did the Southport Weekender, Notting Hill Carnival every year, had guest mix shows on the national radio stations (Kiss FM, Radio1, and Choice FM).
Throughout these years I associated with many highly skilled DJ's, which enabled me to improve my skills. I entered the DMC mixing championship heats in London, which was an amazing experience. Gradually, I was drawn to more up-tempo forms of music, like UK Garage, Drum & Bass, and House. I began buying these types of music and incorporating them in our sets, which broadened our audience base.
The Boogie Bunch sadly disbanded in 1999 (RIP DJ Swing, 1967-2006). I continued to DJ, but only UK Garage. I had a show on a pirate radio station (Taste FM) for 4 years. When UK Garage eventually lost it's mainstream appeal, I took some time out from Djing in clubs to enjoy just listening to music, during which, my music taste matured to the sounds of House. Gradually, I began doing coporate work through contacts in the events industry.
These included the launch of the "Blackberry Storm", Norman Foster (architects) Christmas party, opening of Bankside Place for Land Securities and numerous fashion shows.
2009: I Play only house music, and with music productions in the pipeline, I'm looking forward to having as much success as I did playing other forms of music.
