QUICK INTRO - I am Gregory Cooper a Club DJ with over 5 years experience
playing in Nightclubs, Pubs and Radio throughout Northern Ireland but now
based in Glasgow Scotland. I play all the very best in House, Trance, and
Old Skool Dance all from the past, present and future!! My music collection
starts away back in the 90's and travels right up to today's most recent
mixes.
FROM THE START - I began my career in 1996 as a mobile DJ at the age of 15
carrying out wedding and birthday functions around hotels and function rooms
in Northern Ireland. At this point I was playing all types of music from the
70's to the present day hits. This to me was a great training ground as I
got used to speaking with a mic and learning how to work the crowd onto the
dance floor.
As much as I did enjoy the mobile discos it wasn't what I had set my main
goal to be. I had always wanted to play to Northern Irelands Clubbing scene
and to host my own dance show on the radio, so with hard work and dedication
I set about this task.
I continued with my mobile discos and with any spare time I entered into DJ
mixing competitions around Northern Ireland mainly to get a bit of
experience mixing in front of larger audiences, at this point I had already
been playing my mobile disco for 3 years and had a lot of experience up my
sleeve in knowing how to work the crowd and use the mic. I found that most
of the competitions I entered I got laughed at by the other DJ's because I
used Pioneer CDJ mixing decks and only a small amount of vinyl records, at
this time it was not very common to find C-DJ's mixing in clubs as much as
you would today. This gave me the will to win and I surely wiped the smile
of their faces when I went home with the first prizes.
With all the competitions and mobiles discos behind me I started appearing
in clubs and pubs in my local town of Ballymena this was a lot more exciting
for me as I was starting to get closer to my goal, I also had guest slots at
the Eclipse nightclub in the town moving onto playing as Saturday night
resident in the George and then Friday night resident in McSwiggans. From
here on in I kept climbing the ladder playing an odd mobile disco here and
there for regular customers and keeping to my regular resident bookings. My
next big step took me to one of Northern Irelands best known nightclubs,
Traks in Portrush. With a massive Saturday night attendance of up to 1800
clubbers what more could I ask for. This opportunity was given to me by
Traks nightclub promoter Brian Moore who at the time when asked why he gave
me the chance to DJ at Traks and not the never ending amount of without
doubt talented bedroom djs he told me that he liked the fact I had the
experience of doing mobile disco's and that's why he gave me the chance to
shown what I was capable of, so all the hours I had put in on the mobile
discos didn't go to waste and probably gave me the stepping stone for things
to come. It couldn't have started any bigger as I stood in for the Saturday
night resident as he was on holidays and after that I returned to Traks for
Saturday night guest slots and odd Thursday and Sunday night here and there.
I was kept busy from here on in and started playing in various clubs and
pubs throughout Northern Ireland until Brian Moore approached me to be
resident in a new club that was to open called The Elite in a town called
Lurgan. I didn't think twice as this club had a brand new sound system,
decor that clubs in Ibiza would have been proud of and they had top name
DJ's already lined up from all over Europe to star as weekly guests.
Shortly after this I received a call from a local Radio DJ who asked me if I
would be interested in my very own Saturday night dance show for a new radio
station and of course as you should know by now this was the last tick that
I needed on my goal sheet, so it was a definite yes! Even though I had never
been in a radio studio they trained me on the basics and I done the rest. I
took to it like a duck to water.
HERE & NOW - I have now moved to Glasgow Scotland and with a 5 year break I
have decided it's now time to get back into what I love best (Club Djing). I
have built a dj studio at my house, bought new equipment, designed a website
(www.gregorycooper.co.uk) and purchased a lot of new music so I am not
taking this as a hobbie, it is now my main focus!!
