MJ Sly is one of the most highly sought after DJs in the UK urban club scene having built a reputation for his versatility and ability to play a wide range of musical genres to a high standard. An eclectic DJ, who has spent the past 15 years perfecting his skills and widening his musical knowledge, MJ Sly currently performs at club nights and events across the South of England.
DJing began as a hobby at the age of 12. As an avid follower of the UKG scene in the mid-late 90’s MJ Sly began playing House & Garage and was lucky enough to have an older brother with Technics 1210’s and boxes full of vinyl!! In years to come as the UKG scene evolved, MJ Sly began to widen his selection and after re-locating to Cardiff in 2002 to attend University; he quickly became one of the capital’s most popular DJs holding a number of residencies and performing regularly with the leading broadcasters in the UK such as Kiss & 1Xtra DJs Westwood, Heartless, Shortee Blitz and EZ. MJ Sly also featured on Kiss 101 on several occasions, supported US artists Twista & Cassidy on tour and played for 2 consecutive years at Wales’ biggest music festival ‘Escape into the Park’.
In 2006, MJ Sly returned to the Greater London area and decided to start his own club night ‘SexyBack’. This mid-week session in Windsor fused the new emerging underground house sounds coming out of London with classic RnB/Hip Hop and ran each Wednesday for 18 months. The club night is now widely regarded as the first weekly event to spread the emerging ‘underground house’ sound outside of London. MJ Sly performed each week alongside residents DJ Pioneer (now of Kiss FM), Supa D (Rinse FM) and many more. As Head of the Atlantic Street Team in the Greater London area, this club night provided a platform for showcasing and promoting new music on behalf of the label. MJ Sly went on to produce a mixtape for Jamaican artist Cham in 2007 of which 20,000 copies were distributed around the UK by Warner Records leading to MJ Sly being invited to perform at a key urban event in The Kingdom of Bahrain.
Over the past 3 years, as CEO of the Serial Ravers collective consisting of DJs, Club Promoters and Producers, MJ Sly has gone from strength to strength distributing over 5000 mix CDs showcasing his musical interests in House & Garage, RnB & Dancehall and networking with DJs/Promoters nationwide to secure club bookings across the UK and abroad. In 2011, MJ Sly performed for an extended period at Black & White Nightclub in Malta and in 2012 he guest performed at the Miami Bass Slam events in South Beach, Miami and The Bahamas.
MJ Sly currently holds residencies in High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Ascot, Maidenhead, Guildford and Bristol in the South of England as well as guest performances at leading urban events fusing the many different styles of music he plays together. More recently MJ Sly’s versatility has led to him becoming the official tour DJ for chart topping Daniel Pearce performing at live music venues across the UK and being invited to guest perform on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
