I started learning to Dj properly in Jan '07, I had tried mixing a couple of times before that but just assumed (and hoped!) it would come naturally, little did I know it would take hours upon hours of hard work and dedication before I would even be able to beat match properly, never mind learn how and when to mix! I had began to feel that the clubbing scene had gone stale, I was a Funky House lover from the first moment I heard it but suddenly around 2006-07 the clubbing scene was saturated with Electro which was fresh at first but then all began to sound the same, no night out would stand out from the last and everything seemed so repetitive. After being a clubber for almost 10 years I knew something had to change and thought that maybe I could make a difference, however small.
So I started to learn on a pair of Technics 1210's then bought a pair of Pioneer CDJ800's in April '07 which allowed me to practise more often with fresh music as the cost of mp3s is significantly cheaper than that of vinyl, this meant that I was always mixing fresh, new tunes which always kept me interested.
In June '07 I was given my first set, playing at a nightclub in Bolton which went really well and I was asked back on a number of occassions and still play there now from time to time. Over the next few months I gained more and more experience and exposure and played for some of the biggest clubs in Manchester such as North and Alter Ego, I gained residencies for Rude, Dusk til Dawn and Funkie Junkie and continued to play as a guest Dj at various clubs and bars in and around Manchester, toward the end of 2007 I was even fortunate to play for Miss Moneypenny's.
2008 kicked off with a bang and I made my debut at the world-wide known (and recently voted 17th best club in the World by DJ Mag) Sankeys, Manchester. This was a dream come true and something which any aspiring Dj would love to do. My debut went well and I gained a residency and now play on a monthly basis at Sankeys.
Anyone who has seen me play will tell you I do more than just play tunes, I get involved with the crowd and make sure I give them 110%, just as I expect from them. I have seen Dj's who don't even smile during their sets and I just think 'why bother?' At the end of the day I am a clubber who just happens to Dj and therefore I know what the crowd want and when they want it, most of the time anyway!
Toward the end of last year I upgraded my 800's to a pair of CDJ1000's which are unbelievable! And have recently invested in a Pioneer EFX-1000 which i am hoping to master soon in order to add another dimension to my sets.
