Phil started DJ'ing in 1992 playing vocal/deep/garage house. He was quickly noticed by friends of a pirate radio station and became quite popular at club nights run by the station. He carried on like this until 1997 when his circumstances changed and he had to give up DJ'ing for a while. The pirate radio station (Sweet FM) made a comeback in 2006 as an Internet Radio station and Phil was asked to play again. He started to get noticed for his technical ability and started a residence on Fridays and Saturdays at Ven-u Bar in Hull playing mainly funky house and club classics.
Sweet FM then started a monthly night in September 2006 at Zebra Club in Hull and Phil was asked to play. By now he'd started buying Electro House MP3's and had quickly learned how to use CDJ's as opposed to the vinyl he'd always used. He was noticed at this first Sweet FM night by Saint Paul (Shine) and Carlos (Sexylectro). From this he was asked to play at Sexylectro and off the back of that was told that one half of the Shineboys was leaving and was asked to join up at Shine - an opportunity not to be missed!
His residency at Shine started in Dec 2006 and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Phil has since DJ'd alonside the likes of Micky Slim, Will Bailey, Funk Junkies, Dirty Sound Technicians, Funkfellas, Kid Circus, Sandy Turnbull and many others. Phil and Saint Paul are also residents at Charged at DQ in Sheffield where they play alongside the Funk Junkies and Funkfellas at what was voted the best bar in Yorkshire at the Galaxy Night Life awards 2007.
Of late, The Shineboys have been playing different sounding solo sets - Saint Paul plays tough Electro House whereas Phil plays predominantly Tech House with elements of progressive house and techno, depending on what sort of audience it is.
